San Carlos Airport Launches FAA Noise Study

By Renee Schiavone (Patch Staff) - April 18, 2017 5:56 pm ET San Carlos Airport Launches FAA Noise Study SAN CARLOS, CA – The San Carlos Airport is holding an open-house style public meeting this Thursday to inform the community about a new federally funded noise study and explain how it differs from a separate, earlier aircraft disturbance evaluation The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 150 Noise Compatibility Study is intended to promote aircraft noise control and land use compatibility. It is the only FAA study conducted primary for the benefit of airport neighbors and its goals are identifying current and projected noise levels in the airport area; proposing strategies to reduce the impacts of aircraft noise through changes in aircraft operations or airport facilities; and, in undeveloped areas encouraging zooming compatible with noise such as agricultural or industrial. The study is expected to be completed in 18 to 24 months. The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors will receive final recommendations for consideration and after its approval the final study will be sent to the FAA for its approval. As part of the process, the County of San Mateo — which owns and operates the airport — will hold four workshops and Thursday night’s public hearing. Enter email address SUBSCRIBE As part of its ongoing efforts to ease noise impacts on residents, the County of San Mateo in March 2016 also undertook its own aircraft disturbance study to evaluate the possibility of restricting he number of flights into and out of the airport for some aircraft and imposing an evening curfew. The Board of Supervisors will likely consider noise mitigation measures, including the proposed curfew and restrictions, in July. The upcoming open house is Thursday, April 20 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Hiller Aviation Museum, 601 Skyway Road, San Carlos.
