San Carlos Financial Program to Assist

The City of San Carlos Redevelopment Agency offers a Downtown Assistance Loan Program for first-time homebuyers who are buying a home in San Carlos. Second mortgage loans up to $55,000 are available at a 3 percent interest rate with no payments due for the first five years. Eligible applicants must have lived or worked in San Carlos for one year prior to applying and must meet certain income limits. The income limits are by family size. These are the new limits: 1 person, $79,800; 2 people, $91,200; 3 people, $102,600; 4 people, $114,000; 5 people, $123,100; For more information call (650) 802-4263.

San Carlos New Cart Smart Recycling

City of San Carlos The new CartSmart Recycling, Yard Clipping/Food Scrap Recycling and Garbage Carts continue arriving in San Carlos on October 13 - 22. You can start using your new carts as soon as they are delivered. A set of instruction cards will be attached to one of the new carts for more information. The old bins can be recycled by putting them out with the "Take Me" stickers that will be provided.

20 Annual Art and Wine Festival

The Peninsula’s Premiere Fall Festival, the San Carlos Art and Wine Faire will celebrate its 20th Anniversary on Saturday and Sunday, October 9 and 10, 2010 from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm each day.

The Faire covers both sides of San Carlos Avenue (between El Camino and Walnut) and on Laurel Street from San Carlos Avenue to Arroyo and is easily accessible from Caltrain and SamTrans.

A wide selection of over 290 of high quality, hand-picked artists and exhibitors present their beautiful work for Faire goers. Attendees always comment on the high quality of the art and the diverse offerings.

There will be a treasure trove of ceramics, pottery, watercolor, oil paintings, photography, wood working and jewelry – something for everyone! Not to mention food, wine and musical entertainment.

September 9th is the Last Day for Hot Harvest Nights this year!

Fall Maintenance To Do's

As autumn is quickly approaching, here are some areas of your home to inspect and repair now so you can relax and enjoy a safe and cozy fall season: Pests Mice are excellent climbers and only need an opening the width of a pencil (¼ inch) to sneak inside your home to search for food. Protect yourself by sealing all cracks and other openings into your home and blocking off ventilation ducts with heavy-gauge wire mesh. Fire protection Open your fireplace damper and inspect the chimney flue for any nesting birds or animals. The National Fire Protection Association recommends that all chimneys, fireplaces and vents be inspected every year to reduce the danger of house fires caused by excessive creosote build-up. Nooks and Crannies Replace worn or missing caulking and weather stripping to keep energy costs down. Windows If you use storm windows to protect against the cold weather, make sure they are clean and free of cracks before installing. Air Circulation Clean and adjust ceiling fans so that air circulates more efficiently. This allows fans to gently mix warmer air (which naturally rises) back into the room. Gutters Whether you do it yourself or hire a handyman, have your all dead leaves and debris removed from rain gutters. These are just the basics—but they’re important. And while you’re at it, take care of two more items on your home maintenance to-do list: Clean in and around dryer lint vents and replace all smoke alarm batteries. Enjoy the upcoming cooler weather!
